Overview
Mortal Shell 2 is full of permanently-missable content, and the game is in no hurry to tell you. Three achievements, one Tarstone and a string of NPC windows close for good if you push the story too far — and free-roaming stays open after the final boss, so the only true cutoff is pressing Send Ova and entering NG+. This guide collects every confirmed missable in one place so you can plan around them on a 100% run.
Sources: trophy coverage from PowerPyx, Game8 and bo3.gg is broadly consistent on the core three; where they disagree (two extra trophies described as missable only by Game8) the mismatch is flagged below rather than silently merged.
Missable Achievements
The launch trophy coverage agrees on three missable achievements worth planning around:
- Mid Summer? — during the opening, Marigold offers you a flower crown on the way to claim your first Shell. Interact with her and take the crown; walking past her locks the trophy for that playthrough. Because it's the very first section, this one also can't be earned in NG+.
- No, You Still Can't Win — take the prologue tutorial boss Tar Golem to minimum health (you can beat it, though the scripted cutscene plays either way). It only happens in the tutorial, which NG+ skips, so the miss stays locked after the first run.
- Peter's Perfect Parry — with the Untarnished Seal, perfectly guard every headspin of The Nameless Captive. This one can be caught up on in NG+ (where the boss is stronger), so try it in the first playthrough.
Two other trophies are described as missable only by Game8 — Ascension (discover the secret of the Mango) and Feed Me (cause Egon to pass away) — but not flagged as missable by PowerPyx or bo3.gg. Treat them as obtainable-with-effort rather than permanently lockable, and note the source split before relying on a single playthrough plan.
Missable Collectibles
Most collectibles are safe to grab after the story — free-roam stays open until Send Ova — but a few are permanently locked out if you miss their timing:
- Berserker's Stone (Temple of Vatra) — the missable Tarstone tied to the Stoned trophy. After you take the Heart of Vatra and leave, the area's gate closes permanently and does not reopen in NG+ (a known issue even after patches). Pick it up before leaving.
- Ova (all 196) — tied to the Bring My Ova Back to Me trophy. Currently bugged so it can only be earned in the first playthrough; don't rely on NG+ to finish the collection or you may lock the trophy entirely.
Missable Quests & Interactions
A handful of NPC interactions close for good if you advance the story past the right Beacon rest:
- Grisha Pup / Grisha Hunter: the hunter is wiped out and his shop vanishes after a Beacon rest, so buy out his stock first, especially the Grisha Remnant and the Cage Key.
- Gorf ↔ Hilga interlock: pushing Gorf's quest too far before starting Hilga's skips her early interactions — do the yard scenes first.
- Vratko (Marrow's Keep): a pure flavor "self-study" quest that advances on its own after a Beacon rest; no reward, but easy to miss.
- Mushroom Village villagers (Suspicious, Young, Lonely, Despondent): small windows that close after a Beacon rest.
- Baghead (Desolate Peak): not missable in the sense of locking, but his secret ending is only available before you trigger the main-ending Send Ova sequence if you want both in one run.
Point of No Return
There is exactly one point of no return, and it can't be triggered by accident: the Send Ova prompt at the Gloom Siphon in Marrow Keep. It only appears after you defeat the final boss, Zmey the Unbidden, so you can explore and collect freely right up until the ending. There is no confirmation dialog — clicking Send Ova is immediate and irreversible, fires the main ending, awards "This is Not an Achievement" and moves you into NG+. Do every missable, collectible and quest you care about before pressing it.
The Slayer Seal also deserves a mention here: carrying or using it locks achievements and trophies, so leave it unequipped on any 100%-run until you're done with trophy hunting.
