Mortal Shell 2 Full Walkthrough

Every region, quest and collectible in order — plus the Send Ova point of no return and the three missable achievements you must not miss.

Overview

This Mortal Shell 2 walkthrough is built from multiple independent English guides and a full no-commentary playthrough, so you can follow the critical path without getting lost in the game's compact open world. Mortal Shell 2 puts you in the role of the Harbinger, a being guided by the goddess UnderMether to recover her Ova (eggs) and cleanse the corruption left behind by a foul Passenger. As you explore you can inhabit the bodies of fallen heroes — the Shells — to borrow their abilities and skill trees, switching between them whenever you need a different tool for the job.

The game was still preview coverage when this guide went live: a full Mortal Shell 2 walkthrough was published in parts, and some late-game entries were still marked as "coming soon." Everything below marked as preview detail should be confirmed once the game is fully released.

Main Regions in Order

The most detailed Mortal Shell 2 walkthrough is published in twelve parts, one per region. The first six regions were fully documented before launch, and coverage of the remaining parts has been filling in since the August 20 release; region order is stable across all post-launch route guides.

Different guides name the same areas differently — one publisher splits the opening into Disciple's Pass (Village Outskirts, Disciple's Grotto), Fainweald, Glutted Mire and Sanguine Caverns, while another uses Wretched Village, Adept's Grotto, Marrow Keep, Widow's Rise, Mushroom Village and Blackrock Pass. Treat these as naming differences, not separate locations.

The Prologue introduces the Harbinger and your first Shell, Harros: you receive the Iconoclast weapon, meet the giant crow Ruk who guides you forward, and fight through Wretches and Brigands to reach your first major boss just before Marrow Keep. After you cleanse your first Beacon you receive the Muradean Actuator, which unlocks weapon upgrades at the forge. In the Disciple's Pass opening flow, expect a Gloombound Ritualist practice fight, a polearm knight on a bridge, an optional Twisted Visage off the left side of the bridge, and a Tar Golem in Disciple's Grotto (which grants the "Finish the Fight" achievement but no real loot). An elevator past the grotto collects Ovum and leads to the hub, Marrow Keep, where NPCs Franz, Vratko, Merrick and Milos start their side quests.

Beacons work like bonfires: rest to heal, level up and fast travel, but trash respawns. Cleansing a Beacon grants an additional buff. Later areas reward thorough exploration — Blackrock Pass holds the Proxima Shell, a Galvanic Shard (lightning resistance), and the King's Crypt dungeon with an upgraded Veteran Battleaxe.

Point of No Return

The Mortal Shell 2 point of no return is the "Send Ova" prompt at the Gloom Siphon in Marrow Keep — and it cannot be triggered accidentally. The option only appears after you have defeated the final boss, so you can explore and collect freely right up until the ending. There is no confirmation dialogue: once you select "Send Ova," the final cutscene plays, you earn the "This is Not an Achievement" achievement, and New Game Plus begins.

To reach that point you first need 168 Ovum. The most efficient method is cleansing all six Corrupted Gates — each one awards a large batch of Ovum — though you do not need every gate if Beacon cleanses and other Ovum pickups cover the difference. Once you have 168 Ovum, return to the Gloom Siphon room in Marrow Keep and interact with the NPC to open a floor passage into a large underground area. Four bosses wait down there, ending with Zmey the Unbidden, the final boss. Defeat him, return to the Siphon, and the "Send Ova" choice is yours.

Missable Achievements

Three Mortal Shell 2 achievements can be permanently missed if you do not plan for them. Two of them sit in the Prologue and force a fresh save file if you skip them; the third can be back-filled in New Game Plus.

AchievementWhereHow to get it
Mid SummerPrologueCompleted in the opening area — missed it means a new save
No, You Still Can't WinPrologueAlso locked to the opening — no catch-up later
Untarnished Seal Perfect GuardPrisoners' Domain / NG+Equip the Untarnished Seal and Perfect Guard every headspin attack of The Nameless Captive; can be completed on a New Game Plus run

If you are achievement hunting, check the Prologue twice before leaving it, and save the third for a New Game Plus clean-up if the timing gives you trouble. As the day one patch shifted combat timing — Riposte is now triggered only by light attacks, and parry timing has been re-aligned — the Perfect Guard window may feel slightly different from early preview videos.
