Eredrim the Venerable

A returning heavyweight who breaks enemy posture for a living — here's how to unlock Eredrim, stack Slaughterer, and use him as a boss killer.

Overview

Eredrim the Venerable answers a different question than Mortal Shell 2's speedsters: how much punishment can one Shell absorb while systematically dismantling a boss's break bar? The returning veteran of the first Mortal Shell — and one of the three gameplay-reveal protagonists, alongside Tiel and Proxima — is ranked A-tier by The Phrasemaker's August 2026 list and called by GameRant one of the strongest boss-killer Shells, available surprisingly early.

His strengths are all about control: RPS calls him a "tanky Shell," GameRant notes an upgraded Shoulder Bash can fill a boss's break bar in roughly two hits, and his bell — Ethereal Diapason — chips nearby enemies for small break damage. He's a slow, deliberate fighter who turns fights into a rhythm of stagger and riposte, reliable rather than flashy in exploration.

There is one thing to know before you commit: the day-one patch hit Eredrim with a nerf. GamerFuzion reports Shoulder Bash now costs more Resolve and the Oppression upgrade was weakened — single-source reporting (T2) pending in-game confirmation, relevant mainly if you're following pre-patch guides.

Abilities — Bash, Bell & Executioner

Eredrim's kit is triple-stacked, confirmed across Game8, Fextralife, DualShockers and GameRant:

  • Shoulder Bash (active) — a charging shoulder slam that deals break-bar damage. This is the engine of his playstyle: two upgraded bashes stagger a boss, setting up the riposte loop.
  • Ethereal Diapason (active) — he smashes a bell, releasing a blinding shockwave that deals small-area break damage to everything nearby. Your crowd-control chip when you can't commit to a single target.
  • Executioner (passive) — Eredrim can execute enemies at low health, and every Riposte grants Slaughterer stacks that stack up a buff. The catch: stacks reset to zero when you rest at a beacon or get stripped out of the Shell. Momentum is the whole game.

Skill Tree Highlights

Fextralife hosts the only complete skill tree (page last edited at the August 20 launch). Values below are post-release guide numbers, pending verification. Note one soft conflict: Game8's excerpt of Alacrity differs slightly from Fextralife's at tier 1 — we follow the full Fextralife tree here and flag it.

TierSkillWhat it does (post-release values, pending verification)
Tier 1AlacrityShoulder Bash charges faster and costs less Resolve; riposte kills make skills free for 8 seconds.
Tier 1MassacreRipostes grant 2–3 Slaughterer stacks; riposte kills grant up to 10.
Tier 1ApathyFrost resistance 50% to immune; +20% damage against frozen enemies — the seed of the "Fear of Frost" build.
Tier 2AnguishShoulder Bash damage up to 150%, adds Weak, huge stagger.
Tier 2TankEach Slaughterer stack reduces damage taken (0.15%–0.2% per stack).
Tier 3RadianceEthereal Diapason damage and break scale up, adds Fragile, range up to 200%.
Tier 3CarnageExecutions splash 50–100 damage to nearby enemies.
Tier 4OppressionShoulder Bash break damage up; the final rank fires a frontal shockwave that adds Trauma but costs 20 extra Resolve.
Tier 4PersistenceResting or being stripped only costs 50% then 25% of your Slaughterer stacks — your damage reduction survives between fights.

The defining investment for a boss-killer setup is Massacre + Anguish + Tank + Persistence: more stacks, harder bashes, and stacks that survive rest stops.

How to Get Eredrim

Eredrim requires beating The Warden at the Citadel of Penance, northwest of Widow's Overlook. The full verified route (Game8, Fextralife, RPS, GameRant, Destructoid, DualShockers):

  1. From Widow's Overlook head west into Gloomshade Grove. At the southeast lake, defeat the Bloodcursed Lithopod — it drops the Citadel Gate Lever.
  2. Head west into the Citadel. Immediately after entering, turn right and purify the Citadel of Penance Beacon.
  3. Return to the central area, drop down to the lower level, and take the elevator on the right up to the open arena at the top.
  4. Approach the interactable object in the arena — The Warden drops in and the fight begins.
  5. Defeat him, then interact with his corpse to watch the memory and claim the Shell.

There's a shortcut: a coin pouch on the bridge northeast of the One-Legged Wolf Beacon (GameRant) — or in the ruins south of the One-Legged Wolf Tavern, depending on source — teleports you straight to the elevator cell, skipping the Lithopod entirely. Lore-wise, Eredrim was one of The Warden's victims, which is why his corpse waits there.

Recommended Build

VPEsports' weapon synergy table (T2, single source) pairs Great Martyr's Blade with Eredrim as its best Shell — a big sword with high break and range that matches his stagger playstyle. The blade lives in the Martyr's Prison dungeon on the same Gloomshade Grove route (kill the Bloodcursed Lithopod for the gate lever, then divert to the prison); The Phrasemaker places it northwest of the Gloomshade Grove beacon, outside the Citadel.

Fairness note: Game8's Proxima build also recommends Great Martyr's Blade for its lightning setup. Weapons aren't Shell-bound, so this isn't a conflict — it's two Shells sharing one excellent sword. On the skill side, Fextralife's "Fear of Frost" build leans into Apathy's frost line. And because of the day-one nerf to Shoulder Bash's Resolve cost, budget one extra Resolve management skill early.

Trophy & Final Thoughts

Unlocking Eredrim earns the Vengeance is Mine trophy, cross-confirmed by four trophy lists (T1). He's the Shell to pick when you want fights to end on your terms: bash the break bar, riposte, stack Slaughterer, repeat. Just remember stacks reset when you rest — Mortal Shell 2 wants you to keep moving, and Eredrim's whole power curve runs on that rhythm.
