Proxima the Broodseeker

A hook-arm all-rounder who drags enemies into melee and wears lightning like armor — here's how to unlock and build Proxima.

Overview

Proxima the Broodseeker is the reason the early hours of Mortal Shell 2 feel so generous: a hook-arm, lightning-charged all-rounder you can grab almost as soon as the prologue ends. Game8, Fextralife, RPS, GameRant, DualShockers and The Phrasemaker's August 2026 tier list all agree she belongs in the first batch of Shells worth collecting; The Phrasemaker slots her at A-tier, one step below the S-tier trio of Tiel, Smert and Genessa.

Her whole identity is captured in one phrase repeated across those guides: "versatile hybrid." She can grapple enemies to her or yank herself onto them, stack lightning for damage-over-time, and absorb hits with a probabilistic damage reduction that never staggers her. She isn't the fastest or the tankiest — she just does a bit of everything well, a natural pick for a first playthrough when you don't yet know what your build wants to be.

Two extra notes before the details. First, Proxima is connected to the Hexapod: GameSpot, GameTyrant and RPS confirm the Hexapod is the monster she hunts, and she can even be summoned during that boss fight. Second, the day-one patch gave her a buff — GamerFuzion reports the Endeavor sidearm now has infinite ammo and Seizure's radius is "much wider." That's a single-source report (T2) pending confirmation, but the direction is clear: Proxima was already good, and the launch patch nudged her up.

Abilities — Biosampler & Grafted Armor

Proxima's kit has two pillars, confirmed verbatim by Game8, Fextralife and DualShockers:

  • Biosampler (active) — her left arm fires a hook that pulls an enemy toward her (or pulls her toward a distant target), sets up a follow-up attack, and applies Lightning stacks. The stacks behave like a damage-over-time debuff, so every grapple is also a passive damage investment.
  • Grafted Armor (passive) — a base 15% chance to reduce incoming melee or ranged damage, with the reduced hit taking 50% less damage and, crucially, never triggering a stagger. It won't stop every hit, but it turns the hits that matter most into non-events.

That pairing is why guides call her defensive-reactionary: Biosampler closes distance and controls position, while Grafted Armor quietly lets you win trades you had no business winning.

Skill Tree Highlights

The full tree is documented on Fextralife (the only complete source). Skill costs and values below are post-release guide numbers, pending verification against the live game.

TierSkillWhat it does (post-release values, pending verification)
Tier 1AttunementBiosampler Resolve cost cut by 20% / 30% / 50%.
Tier 1ExoshellGrafted Armor upgrades: reduction chance +100% while Biosampling, +25% while aiming, +30% briefly after dodging, +50% while sprinting.
Tier 1AmpereonLightning resistance 50% to immune; Shock damage and radius double.
Tier 2BiohazardBiosampler damage up, more lightning stacks (up to +5 per hit).
Tier 2BiohunterPermanent bonus damage vs. Biosampled enemies, stacking per sample (up to ~30% with max investment).
Tier 3SeizureBiosampler hits add Stasis stacks and splash Stagger — the crowd-control core.
Tier 3ShellshockGrafted Armor triggers grant Resolve and reflect lightning stacks at the attacker.
Tier 4DischargeBiosampler knocks the target back and calls a lightning storm (6s / 9s / 10s).
Tier 4FortressDamage-reduction strength up roughly +110% to +133%.

The build-relevant spine is Attunement + Exoshell + Biohazard + Biohunter + Seizure + Discharge — the six Game8 calls out. It converts Biosampler from a setup tool into a self-feeding loop: hook, stack lightning, add Stasis, detonate with Discharge.

How to Get Proxima

Proxima has no boss gate. The shortest verified route (Game8, Fextralife, Sports Rant and The Phrasemaker all agree):

  1. From the Widow's Overlook beacon, head north to the Blackridge Pass beacon.
  2. Facing the beacon, turn right and follow the road to Blackridge Cliffs.
  3. Take the ramp on the left upward; in the distance you'll see the Shattered Beacon. An Infested Stalker roams nearby — you can ignore it.
  4. Enter the Shattered Beacon and walk to the center of the room. Interact with the body on the table to watch Proxima's memory and claim her Shell.

The Shattered Beacon is not a normal beacon — it doesn't count as a purification point and won't appear in the Mether's Breath fast-travel list. Once you reach Marrow Keep, Proxima's location is marked on your map automatically (she and Tiel are the two exceptions to paying Glimpse for shell locations), and Zhirelle the Shellkeeper highlights it on your first conversation.

Recommended Build

Game8's "Love of Lightning" line (their Best Builds hub, T2) is the most complete public loadout for Proxima:

SlotRecommended
Main weaponGreat Martyr's Blade
SidearmTriarch Repeater
SealUntarnished Seal
Main tarstonesGrudge Stone, Voltaic Crown (infusion), Acolyte's Stone
Sidearm tarstonesRupturing Stone, Voltaic Amber
Core skillsAttunement, Exoshell, Biohazard, Biohunter, Seizure, Discharge

One honest caveat: VPEsports lists Great Martyr's Blade as Eredrim's best weapon, and Game8's Eredrim material agrees. Weapons aren't bound to a Shell, so both readings are valid — the blade suits both a break-focused tank and a lightning all-rounder. Fextralife also hosts a dedicated "Love of Lightning" build page for Proxima if you want a second opinion on tarstone choices.

Trophy & Final Thoughts

Unlocking Proxima earns the Arrival trophy, cross-confirmed by four trophy lists (T1). Combined with her no-boss acquisition and the day-one buff, she's one of the safest early investments of your Glimpse in Mortal Shell 2 — a Shell that teaches you positioning while still paying off into the late game. If you want one permanent Shell that never feels wasted, Proxima is it.
