Orrem the Reclaimed — Boss Guide

A beefed-up Tar Golem that resurrects with a centipede spine — one of the last three bosses standing between you and the final fight.

Overview

GameSpot sums up Orrem in one perfect line: he is a beefed-up Tar Golem. You met the baby version in the prologue; now the Unfound Path throws the grown-up at you, and he is one of the three bosses you must defeat before you are allowed anywhere near the final fight of Mortal Shell 2. Orrem fights in two named forms — Orrem, the Discarded Golem in phase one, and Orrem, the Reclaimed after he resurrects — and the launch coverage frames him as a boss that embodies the world's corruption. He is a two-phase endurance test where the heal management is half the battle.

The defining warning from every source is to not waste your healing in phase one — phase two is a completely different boss with a new move set and higher damage, and if you burn your flasks on the first bar, the Reclaimed form grinds you into the floor. The day one patch made this worse: Orrem the Reclaimed was one of the bosses explicitly buffed at launch.

Location

Orrem guards the Bridge of Procession inside the Unfound Path, the final dungeon of the game. The Unfound Path's central platform is unreachable by default; you have to clear the dungeon's three segments and destroy the tentacles blocking your way, and Orrem is one of the bosses protecting a segment. From the Bridge of Procession Beacon, walk through the tunnel opposite and you reach his arena.

Because the Unfound Path packs several encounters close together, plan the stretch as one long expedition. Orrem sits among the last tests before the endgame narrows, so arrive with full healing, a weapon you trust, and the resolve to fight twice.

Attacks

Orrem's phase one is a classic big-golem brawl, but the launch coverage adds one element that changes everything: he dual-wields two flaming axes, and every hit can apply Burn. The official move name for his signature is Cascading Fire — a melee combo that ends in a flame explosion. He also periodically leaps high and slams down on your position.

In phase two the centipede-like spine is the boss to watch. It acts semi-independently, whipping around, and its mouth glows red as a telegraph before it fires blood projectiles. If you fight Orrem without watching the spine, the chip damage adds up fast.

Phase Breakdown

Phase one, as the Discarded Golem, is about patience with the axes. Open with the Sariel summon to take aggro so you can apply weapon coatings safely, then settle into the rhythm: bait the Cascading Fire combo, dodge through it, punish the recovery. The launch coverage stresses that backing away is the wrong dodge — his reach is too long — so side-dodging is mandatory. Around half health you usually get an opening to land a Riposte for a big damage chunk; take it if it presents itself.

Phase two begins when you deplete the first health bar. Orrem's body explodes — getting too close during the explosion damages you — and he rises again as the Reclaimed, with a new attack pattern and higher damage. The exact trigger wording differs between guides (some describe the tail sprouting, others the corpse explosion), but the launch coverage is unanimous that this is a true second phase, not a cosmetic change. In phase two he roams more, whips you with the spine, and detonates fire from range. At half health he stops and waits at one side of the arena — let the centipede try to grab you first before you commit, stay out of melee range, and either poke from range or wait for him to come to you. If you get too close he shoves you away himself.

Strategy

The one-sentence strategy is: spend nothing in phase one, survive everything in phase two. Treat the first health bar as a rehearsal where you learn his tells and bank your flasks. The Burnt Effigy passive is a strong pick because Burn from his axes is the main source of chip damage in phase one. On the offensive side, the launch coverage recommends side-dodging over back-dodging for every axe swing, and a weapon you can swing safely from range — the reach advantage decides this fight more than raw damage.

For phase two, the priorities change completely. The centipede spine demands peripheral vision: dodge the whips, respect the red-glow blood shots, and keep mobile so the remote flame explosions never find you standing still. The unblockable charge is the one attack you must never attempt to parry — dodge in the moment before he lands. Keep the Sariel summon alive for as long as possible to split the Reclaimed's attention; with two targets to watch, his pressure becomes manageable.

The fight is also a test of patience on the damage side. Orrem gives you windows, but they close fast, and the launch coverage warns that forcing damage when there is no opening is how the Reclaimed form kills you. Chip when it is safe, burst when he is stuck, and let the fight come to you.

Reward and Trophy

Defeating Orrem the Reclaimed drops Orrem's Head, a trade item worth 5,000 coins — sell it to the merchant in Marrow's Keep, per the launch coverage. The direct Gloom payout is reported as 64,442 in a single source from the launch coverage, so treat the exact figure as still being confirmed until more outlets publish their numbers.

The related achievement is Lost Your Head, earned for defeating Orrem the Reclaimed, and it appears across the trophy lists published at launch. On the patch front, the day one update increased Orrem the Reclaimed's damage — he is explicitly listed among the buffed bosses in the launch patch notes, though the note is single-source as of the launch coverage. Budget extra healing for phase two and do not trust pre-patch walkthrough footage for how much punishment the Reclaimed form can deal.
