Sir Isaac the Scholar-Prince — Boss Guide

A bug-man prince of the Faded Citadel who throws his shield away at half health — the fight only gets faster from there.

Overview

Sir Isaac the Scholar-Prince is the boss of the Faded Citadel, one of the six Corrupted Gate dungeons of the Mammon region of Mortal Shell 2, and he is the rare fight where the difficulty is purely a matter of speed. The launch coverage describes him as a bug man — a scholar prince corrupted into an insectile duelist — and his whole identity is reach and tempo. He is primarily a melee fighter, but his range is absurd, and his signature tool, the Leaping Lunge, closes distance from across the arena in an instant.

The structure of the encounter is a two-phase duel with a hard scripted break: at roughly 50% health Sir Isaac throws away his shield and starts dual-wielding a spread of extra blades. From that moment his combos chain faster and his attacks get harder to predict. The day one patch also raised his health and cut the break damage he takes while shielded, so the launched fight is meaner than the walkthroughs filmed before release.

Location

Sir Isaac waits deep inside the Faded Citadel, which sits in the Vestige of Infinity area of the Mammon region, reached through the Gate of Infinity. The route is: push through the Citadel, defeat the Servants of the Scholar-Prince, reach the Citadel Atrium Beacon, then continue deeper to the boss room. One wiki names the landmark the Citadel Annex Beacon instead; the two names may be the same beacon or two different ones — as of the launch coverage that detail is still being confirmed, so follow the beacon in your own game.

The dungeon has a Blue Flames mechanic to extinguish along the way and Ruk as its NPC. Arrive with your build already set — there is no convenient respec between the Servants fight and Isaac.

Attacks

Sir Isaac's kit is small but fast, and the launch coverage gives clean tells for everything dangerous. His two official signature moves are the Leaping Lunge (closing distance instantly) and Pin Cushion — a rapid series of downward thrusts with his twin rapiers that pins you if you get caught.

AttackPhaseCounter
Pin Cushion thrust chainBothDo not punish mid-chain — wait for the full string, then respond
Leaping LungeBothRed-icon warning means it is unblockable — side-dodge as he closes
Airborne downward slashPhase 1Dodge under him — Tiel can counter with a shadow strike
2–3 hit sword combosPhase 1Perfect Guard builds his stagger — block and counter the pause
High-damage grabPhase 2Appears after the shield drop — keep distance when he closes
Tracking stab chasePhase 2Same rhythm until the 6th stab — it hangs longer in the air, then changes tempo
5-spin + thrust finisherPhase 2, low healthDodge every slash to the left and stay close — end with a spin-thrust

The tracking stab chase uses an identical rhythm for five ground stabs — the sixth hangs longer in the air before changing tempo, and players who keep the old count get caught. Count the stabs.

Phase Two

At roughly half health Sir Isaac gets knocked down and, in a beautifully scripted moment, discards his shield and picks up a spread of extra blades. The exact blade count varies between guides, but all agree he switches to a multi-blade stance with faster, chained attacks. The universal advice is to never interject into his combo strings: in phase one you could sneak a hit between his 2–3 swing chains, but in phase two he links moves seamlessly, so you wait for a full chain to end and only then step in.

Phase two also introduces the two deadliest tools: a high-damage grab when he gets close, and the unblockable Leaping Lunge signalled by a red icon. The grab punishes overcommitment — he baits aggression, then closes. When the red icon appears, wait until he is actually coming, then dodge sideways; dodging too early gets you skewered on the lunge's extended reach.

His low-health desperation move is a rotation of five diagonal slashes followed by a fast spinning thrust. The launch coverage gives a clean solution: dodge every one of the five to the left and stay close to him. The move looks like it wants you to run, but the punish for running is worse.

Strategy

Sir Isaac is a stagger fight dressed as a duel. Learn his finite attack patterns and use the Perfect Guard to build his stagger bar, then capitalise when he breaks. When he backs off to create distance, use a charged shoulder bash — it deals a large chunk of stagger damage and leaves him stunned, creating the opening you need for a big punish. In phase one his 2–3 hit chains end in a pause that is your window; block the chain, then answer the pause.

The shield phase is why you stack stagger before the 50% mark. The day one patch cut the break damage he takes while shielded, so phase-one stagger windows are narrower on the launched version — land the Perfect Guards, but expect fewer early Ripostes. After the shield drops, switch to punish-the-recovery play: respect the grab, side-dodge the red-icon lunge, count the six stabs, and never stand in front of him when he has momentum.

Summon Lazlo (spelled Laszlo in some guides) to split his attention — the summon eats aggression while you learn the phase-two chains. For shells, Tiel is the standout pick: his Shadow Dodge handles the airborne slashes and his Shadow Strike punishes Isaac's landing recoveries. Pair that with a weapon with decent reach, because Isaac's range means you will be dodging across half the arena.

Reward and Trophy

Defeating Sir Isaac drops the Scholar's Wormstone, a special Tarstone for the Clockwork Scythe that consumes resolve to keep the scythe's chain spinning, powering up every attack while it lasts. The direct Gloom payout is reported as 54,254 in the launch coverage, making this one of the more profitable Corrupted Gate fights on paper.

The related achievement is Nightmare Fuel, earned for defeating Sir Isaac the Scholar-Prince, and it appears across the trophy lists published at launch. On the patch front, the day one update increased his health and cut the break damage he takes while shielded — a single-source note from the launch coverage that is still being confirmed, but it matches the "multiple bosses buffed" direction confirmed by other outlets. Plan for a longer phase one than the early walkthroughs show.
